Now Accepting New Patients & Families
Your first visit, explained clearly
We know starting with a new dental office is a big step. Here is what to expect, how insurance works, and the easiest ways to book.
What to Expect
A first visit that feels unhurried
1
We get to know you
We review your dental and medical history, listen to your concerns, and make time for questions before anything begins.
2
A thorough exam
Your first appointment typically includes a comprehensive exam and digital x-rays if needed, so we have a full picture of your oral health.
3
A clear next step
We explain what we find in plain language and only recommend treatment when it is needed. Nothing should feel rushed or unclear.
Children & Families
Book the whole family in one place
Parents often tell us they want one dental home for everyone. We welcome children and adults, and we can help you plan family appointments so first visits feel comfortable for kids and convenient for you.
If your child is nervous, let us know when you book. We keep first visits friendly and low-pressure, and we are happy to answer questions in language that makes sense to them.
Insurance information
We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). Bring your CDCP information to your visit and we will confirm what is covered before treatment.
For private dental insurance, we electronically submit claims on your behalf so you do not have to start the paperwork yourself. We do not accept assignment (direct billing) on private plans.
That means payment is due at the time of treatment. Your insurance provider then sends reimbursement directly to you.
Bring your insurance card or plan details to your first visit. We will help you understand what your plan is likely to cover and what you can expect to pay that day.
What to bring
- A government-issued photo ID
- Your dental insurance card or plan information, if you have coverage
- A list of current medications
- Any recent x-rays from a previous dentist, if you have them

FAQ
Common questions from new patients
Are you accepting new patients and families?
Yes. We welcome new patients of every age, including children and families new to London or looking for a dental home they can stay with.
What should I expect at a first visit?
Plan on a conversation about your history, a comprehensive exam, and digital x-rays if we need them. We will walk through findings and options before recommending treatment.
How do I book my first appointment?
Call us at 519-681-1905, email bookings@dearnessfamilydentistry.com, or use the appointment request form on our Contact page.
Do you accept assignment or direct billing?
We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). For private insurance, we do not accept assignment (direct billing). We electronically submit those claims on your behalf. Payment is due at the time of treatment, and reimbursement is sent directly to you by your insurer.
How early should I arrive for my first visit?
Plan to arrive about 15 minutes early to complete any paperwork, or fill out forms in advance if we are able to send them to you ahead of time.
Can I bring my children to the same office?
Yes. We see children and adults in the same practice. See Children’s Dentistry for first-visit tips and Kids & Families for a more playful introduction.
I have dental anxiety – can you accommodate that?
Absolutely. Let us know when you book, and we will take extra time to explain each step and check in with you throughout treatment.
What if I have a dental emergency before I am a patient of record?
Call us at 519-681-1905 during office hours and we will do our best to see you promptly. Learn more on our Emergency Dentistry page.
